先日、FACE BOOKを眺めていたら、

ブランドン・パラニュークがこんなポストをしていた。

 

We stand and we cover our hearts.

We teach our children to do the same.

Some mornings at blast off I get choked up listening to the national anthem

as the sun begins to rise over the still and calm waters.

I know the life we live came with sacrifice from people we’ve never met.

Remember those people.

The simple freedom of choice is not something to take for granted

 

訳としてはこんな感じだ。

 

私たちは立ち上がり、胸に手を当てる。

子供たちにも同じようにするように教える。

朝のスタート前、静かで穏やかな水面に太陽が昇り始める中、

国歌を聴いていると、胸が締め付けられる思いがする。

私たちが生きているこの生活は、

会ったこともない人々の犠牲の上に成り立っていることを私は知っている。

そうした人々を忘れてはならない。

選択の自由という単純な権利は、

決して当たり前のものとして受け止めてはならないのだ。
